Non-union workers face real vulnerabilities — sudden layoffs, wage disputes, and little protection against arbitrary termination. Union membership means a network of union contractors, an inter-local job-referral system, training in first aid, CPR and equipment operation, and enforceable grievance procedures.
The SMWIA is committed to organizing sheet metal workers across Ontario, levelling the bidding landscape through standardized wages and working conditions that benefit legitimate contractors and the workers they employ.
