About Local 235

Sheet Metal Workers' & Roofers' Local 235 has represented skilled tradespeople in southwestern Ontario since 1944.

Sheet Metal Workers' & Roofers' Local 235 has represented skilled tradespeople in southwestern Ontario since 1944.

Chartered on August 11, 1944 under the Sheet Metal Workers' International Association, Local 235 was founded during Windsor's wartime manufacturing boom. From the start, the local's purpose has been simple: to protect and raise the living standards of the skilled men and women who fabricate and install the region's sheet metal and roofing systems.

Today the local represents sheet metal workers, roofers, and sheeters across the industrial, commercial, institutional and residential sectors. Our chartered jurisdiction covers Essex and Kent Counties — Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent — and we service the Sarnia area, with representatives stationed across the region.

Local 235 is part of a larger family: the Ontario Sheet Metal Workers' & Roofers' Conference, SMART Canada, and the international SMART union, which together represent skilled tradespeople across Canada, the United States and Puerto Rico.
